Article
Web mapping biodiversity is an article on how web mapping techniques can be used to help us in disseminating biodiversity data. It is also an article about how we with relatively simple means and low costs can make our data available. It also points towards the use of Quarter Degree Grid Cells as a usefull layer of generalisation for data exchange between the different data owners. Through an example from from Tanzania Wildlife Research Institue at the Tanzania Mammal Atlas Project the reader will be introduced to practical web mapping.

Places on the net
I recently discovered an interesting website. The past three weeks it has been feeding me with interesting links here and there. "Slashgeo wants to be the best user-friendly and user-driven online resource for news and discussions about GIS, Remote Sensing and everything geospatial."

QGIS and WDPA

Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a free GIS system. It has most features necessary to view shapefiles and rasterfiles. Editing of these files are also available.

The article shows the QGIS Open Source Geographical Information System (GIS) version 0.7.3 and use of "The World Database on Protected Areas 2006" with this software. The intention is to give a simple introduction to QGIS on the level -Hey, it works!

I should perhaps mention that parts of the article relies heavily on the QGIS documentation
(source: www.qgis.org).
